Follow the guide to uncover the mysteries of the famous sleep hormone!
What is melatonin?
Melatonin is mainly synthesized in the pineal gland of our brain. This process
begins at nightfall and peaks around 4 a.m.
This hormone mainly serves to set the rhythm of our circadian cycle (sleep/wake). It allows our body to alternate
between "night mode" and "day mode".
When our eyes are exposed to light, an inhibitory effect is immediately felt. Indeed, light (and especially
electronic blue light) negatively affects melatonin production.
Does melatonin exist elsewhere?
Living beings are different, yet the same. It is not hard to find some of our hormones in
other animals… And plants. Melatonin is present in a multitude of plants, even if its role differs.
Tomatoes, rice and grapes contain it, but in very small amounts. Nothing remarkable when
eaten.
Nevertheless, it is possible to extract melatonin from them and thus create food supplements containing a
sufficient quantity to induce a significant effect.
Why take melatonin?
We have every interest in keeping our circadian cycle regular and healthy. Our physical and mental health depend on it
greatly. Sleeping allows our body to rest our organs and thus preserve the main functions of our
body.
It is also a strengthening of our immune defenses, with greater production of antibodies during the
night.
Our days are increasingly stressful, so sleep is not always there. Working at night,
doing physical activity or simply exposing ourselves to the light of our phone harm the production of
melatonin and therefore disrupt our circadian rhythm.
Taking melatonin gives our body a helping hand. It allows us
to fall asleep faster and have an optimal night's sleep on demand!
Melatonin for sleeping, but not only!
Our sleep hormone acts on our circadian cycle both up close and from afar. It also has many other
functions and taking it helps in several cases:
- Insomnia
- Jet lag
- Anxiety and nervousness
Food supplements to the rescue!
Melatonin-based food supplements are essential when we face
sleep disorders.
Whether you have trouble falling asleep or your night's sleep is interrupted by multiple awakenings, melatonin
as a supplement is recommended.
Our SOMMEIL gummies are made not only of this precious hormone, but also of extracts of
chamomile, passionflower and hawthorn.
Don't wait any longer for a well-deserved rest!
